About
Jacobo Z. Gonzales Memorial School of Arts and Trades (JZGMSAT), originally known as Biñan School of Arts and Trades, was established in 1960 through the late Laguna Congressman Jacobo Z. Gonzales. It was created under Republic Act No. 1905 which provided for the establishment of a national school of arts and trades in the municipality of Biñan, province of Laguna that will offer a trade technical curriculum for high school graduates, the four-year secondary trade curriculum, and trade opportunity. It has 14 buildings in 22,267 square meters of land. It has only one campus in Barangay San Antonio, Biñan, Laguna.
The school has successfully attained its identity at the secondary trade level and post-secondary technical level in 1975. Automotive and Electronics Technology were offered in the two-year technical education curriculum, followed by Electrical in 1988 and Civil Technology in 1991. Since then, the school has established linkages with government agencies and industries within the CALABARZON area.
JZGMSAT, the existing technical school in the province offering purely technical education, was mandated to be under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) as provided for R.A. 7796 otherwise known as TESDA Act of 1994 after the tri-focalization of the educational system.
In 2001, additional courses were offered which are registered and certified under the Unified TVET Program Registration and Accreditation System of TESDA. The school was awarded Certificate of Accreditation in Dual Training System in the field of Industrial Automation and Mechatronics Technician, Electronics Technology, Mechanical Technology, Automotive Service Technician, Welding and Fabrication Technology and Electrical Technology with cooperating companies.
The adaptation of the Cisco System Networking Academy Program, a revolutionary partnership between Cisco and educational institutions around the world that goes beyond traditional computer-based education is one of the school’s great achievements which is integrated with Information Technology.
Extension/Outreach Program was implemented in 2000 offering short-term vocational courses for out-of-school youth, unemployed adults, and parents to improve their quality of life. As part of the extension program, the school has entered into a memorandum of agreement with other agencies/cooperating partners in conducting skills training for their staff and constituents. A joint project between OWWA and JZGMSAT was implemented in 2000 to offer technical-vocational courses to the beneficiaries of the Skill-for-Employment Scholarship Program (SESP).
The institution is on its full implementation of the Technical Education program school year 2002-2003 in consonance with the complete rationalization of the secondary education program.
School Year 2007-2008 marked the beginning of the implementation of the new programs/courses registered in compliance with the prescribed minimum requirements under UTPRAS. All courses are designed to equip the students/trainees with basic, common, and core competencies that meet the industry requirements for useful work and the Philippine TVET Qualification Framework for National Certificate (NC) Levels I, II, III, and IV.
JZGMSAT was awarded a Bronze level Accreditation in August 2009 by the Asia Pacific Accreditation and Certification Commission (APACC). The core principle APACC Accreditation and Certification initiative is to harmonize the quality of TVET, standardize skills, taught in TVET institutions in the region, and facilitate greater mobility of the workforce in Asia and the Pacific region.
From 2012 to 2014, JZGMSAT was re-accredited as Bronze Level by APACC.
In 2016, the school was recognized as one of the best training institutions in the field of Mechatronics Servicing by beating the criteria of the STAR Rating Program and passed with Three-Star recognition of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. It is the only institution in CALABARZON Region that was awarded 3 stars.
The momentum continued in 2018. The school garnered Two-Star recognition in Electronic Products Assembly and Servicing NC II and Food and Beverages Services NC II while it got One Star in Automotive Servicing NC II.
As part of the school’s commitment to quality, JZGMSAT constantly strives to improve its Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) delivery.
